Alumni Focus:

Michael Giovannini '04

This is the eighth in a series of Alumni Focus features where we hear from alumni of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department and find out what they have been doing since graduation. This note is from Michael Giovannini '04, who was a computer science major.

Michael writes...

I graduated from Hobart in 2004 and took a job as an Instrumentation and Calibration technician with a small contracting firm in Syracuse, NY. My primary responsibilities were the troubleshooting and repair of pharmaceutical production systems.

By early 2005 I was ready to move on to bigger and better things. I polished my resume and began searching for work that involved more software and less hardware. At that time, Lockheed Martin in Syracuse, NY was searching for software engineers (amongst other disciplines) to staff upcoming projects. I had always admired Lockheed and the work that they did, and thought how lucky I would be if I could land a position with them.

I began to focus my attention solely on Lockheed Martin as a potential employer. Two interviews and two months later, I was hired by Lockheed as a Software Engineer. Assigned to the STE (Special Test Equipment) team in April, 2005, I began working on simulators and test stations for our Airborne Radar division. I currently write OOP code and learn something new and exciting every day.

If any Hobart and William Smith student or graduates are interested in a career with Lockheed Martin, or in the defense arena in general, I urge you to contact me at Michael.N.Giovannini AT lmco.com. I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
