Single Species Density Estimates
Using the Point-Center Quarter Method
Instructions:
This applet may be used to calculate the density of a single species or type
(number per hectare) with
data collected using the Point-Center Quarter Method. For each quarter (Columns I, II, III, and IV)
at each point, enter the distance (in meters) from the point to nearest individual in the quarter.
Use the "Calculate" button to obtain the density estimate. A
95% confidence interval for the density is also calculated. Caution: The confidence interval calculation
is valid only if the number of points n is at least 7.
