Announcements

[4/30] Office hours for reading period and exams: the regular office hours schedule will end on Mon 5/4. I will be unavailable during the day on Wed 5/6 and Sat 5/9, but will read email in the evening. Otherwise, I will generally be in my office during the day and you can always send email to arrange an appointment to make sure I haven't just stepped out for moment.

[3/23] Office hours change: hours on Fri 3/27 will be from 9-10am instead of the usual time. (This is half an hour earlier than the usual time.)

[2/16] Office hours change: there will not be scheduled office hours on Wed 2/18. There will be hours 3-4pm Tue 2/17 instead.

[2/16] There will be a 10-15 minute syntax quiz in class on Fri 2/20. See the syllabus page for information on what will be covered. (Note that while the emphasis will be on the new topics, you will still need to know - and will be graded on - previous syntax topics.)

[2/6] There will be a 10-15 minute syntax quiz in class on Wed 2/11. It will consist of short questions asking you to write down statement(s) to perform some task. You will need to know something about the semantics of each thing so that you can translate what the question is asking for into code, but the emphasis will be on getting the syntax right rather than figuring out algorithms for solving problems. See the syllabus page for information on what will be covered.

[2/5] Math server backup: if the math server goes down again and you are unable to access the course webpage, you can try http://172.30.217.23 as a backup. (This will take you to the department homepage - from there you can navigate to my page and then to the 124 page.) Note that this URL is only available on campus.

[2/5] As it seems that the Math department web server was down for a good chunk of the night last night (making the syllabus page with the lab handout inaccessible), I will extend the deadline for lab #2 until midnight tonight (Thursday). However, the lab period today is to be used for working on lab #3, not finishing up lab #2.

In general, extensions due to computer problems will (only) be granted if the problem is significant (e.g. a department server is down, preventing all work), lasts a long time (more than a few hours), and occurs close to a deadline.

[1/24] TA hours have been posted above.

[1/22] Lab 1 can be found on the syllabus page. All future labs will also be posted on the syllabus page, usually a few days in advance of the lab.

[1/19] Welcome to CPSC 124! This web page is your source for a great deal of important and useful material, so you should take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the website. Check back often for announcements and new information.
