CPSC 327 | Intermediate Programming | Spring 2025 |
If you did not do as well as you would have liked on anything with exams 1-3, there is a second chance interview. The second chance interview is optional.
The interview will be an oral exam covering exams 1-3. You can present new solutions for any of the problems on the exams that you want, and for as many as there are time for in the half hour interview. You may also be asked to explain your reasoning or how you arrived at a solution (even if the exam question didn't ask for that directly) or about a closely related task or variation (which may or may not have been on the exam) to assess your knowledge of the material and not just a specific answer.
Bring your exams to the interview.
You may make use of the textbook and your notes, homeworks, and other materials from the course in addition to the page of notes for exam 3 and any reference material provided with the exams. Make sure you bring any of those resources that you want to use!
You should prepare ahead of time, both to make sure that you figure out the problems but also to maximize what can be covered during the interview — working out something from scratch on the spot takes time away from other questions.
Prioritize which problems you want to present first. There will not be time to go through every problem.
It is not recommended that you write out solutions ahead of time and simply read them back during the interview. It is more effective to have a more general reference for the course material — know where information is in your own notes and/or make a condensed reference page of notes. That gives you a broader understanding of the material and allows you to answer questions about closely related tasks or variations as well.
You can (and are encouraged to) come to office hours to go over similar types of problems or to clarify comments written on the exam.
