This demo illustrates a set of coordinate axes in 3D. It shows each axis as an arrow, with the x-axis in green, the y-axis in blue, and the z-axis in red. This model uses "light-and-material" techniques that are covered in Chapter 4, to give a more realistic appearance.
You can rotate the model to get a better view by dragging your mouse on the display. The same will be true of almost all of the OpenGL demos for this book.
